Susan's Farm
I farm eighteen acres of lemons in Southern California. It's a rich life that I want to share with you but its future is uncertain. This land will always be green because it is in the middle of the greenbelt between two towns and cannot be developed. But what is its future in agriculture? Will it continue to yield crops whose value is uncertain in global markets or will it become a rich man’s weekend hobby?

How did you keep the birds off?
Good question, GRL. The birds, primarily the peacocks, usually eat all the grapes before I even know there are any. The peacocks sit on top of the fence and reach over the vines to get the grapes. The beautiful grapes this year grew at the bottom of the vine, too far for the peacocks to reach. That's the only thing that saved them. Just to be sure, though, I'm going to pick them today. Since there are so many I'm going to hang some to dry for raisins. Thanks for your post.
